Zune Pass and Windows 7 Media Center- 64 bit

I have a WIndows 7 Media Center running 64-bit. I also have subscribed to ZUNE pass. All music is stored on \\SERVER\Music and all songs play fine when using the Zune player. But when I try using MC to play the music, I get a message when the programs selects a ZUNE Pass song- something about getting DMA. Well, I have Zune Pass, it plays fine on Zune player. Windows 7 shows that I am logged into Zune- but songs will not play on WMC.

    Any ideas

    Thanks

In Win7 x86, I lost the ability to play protected .WMA files (e.g. Zune Pass files) in WMC and WMP after installing the VIA audio drivers supplied by Asus for the onboard audio of my P7P55D Pro motherboard. Uninstalling the drivers didn't help; I had to reset the Windows DRM to restore the capability. The VIA drivers don't add anything useful to me, and the basic Windows HD Audio drivers are perfectly adequate, so I recommend against routinely installing third party drivers for onboard audio.

Thanks for your reply- but it does not help me.

I am being told that "To play this content, I must get a license from the provider at: http://get.zune.net/getzune.asp?compid=27845881"

I have a valid license- remember that music plays fine when using the Zune player.

    Any other ideas?

Don't use DRMed files. Buy the cd and then rip them to a loss less code. This is probably not the answer you want but it will save you hassles in the long run.

Does it happen on all the files? I have this happen from time to time to files that changed for whatever reason. Look in the zune software itself and make sure you still have rights to the file. Zune is apparently incapable of cleaning out the old crap. It keeps songs in playlists even if you no longer have rights to the music. Sometimes, it is a "re-release", sometimes they just don't have the rights anymore.

Read my post again. I gave you no reason to believe the files didn't play fine in the Zune software, which of course they did. Even if you haven't installed an audio driver that partially nuked the Windows DRM system, which is what happened to me, causing the same situation you described, resettting the Windows DRM may still be the answer.

Sorry- I forgot to mention that I did disable the default RealTek driver in Device manager. But I think these were the default drivers since I had no sound and a hardware scan refound the same drivers.

But resetting the Windows DRM sounds promising. But I do not know how to do that? Could you tell me- or point me to a link.

Thanks for taking the time tgo reply...again.

I took a really close look at my folders. I discovered 2 things. In some cases, mainly with Dave Matthews Band, I had albums listed in 2 places. Once under Dave Matthews, and once under Zune/Subscription/Dave Matthews Band. The former location did not have DMA- the later did. That is why the songs played under Zune player. So I have some house cleaning to do.

The other issue is that I seem to have a lot of .m4p files that will not play on Zune- or WMP. Not sure what to do here- a Google search said that these were iTunes files- undoubtedly left over from my pre-Zune iPod days. Since iPOd does not have a subscription program, I must have purchased the songs- but apparently they only play on iPods- or iTunes. That sucks.

Anyway, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

That's expected if, say, you've ripped some albums and downloaded others with Zune Pass. (And it's "DRM", not "DMA"). In any case, the DRMed Zune Pass files should play in WMP and WMC. To answer your question about how to reset Windows DRM in hopes of restoring this capability, see this message.
