Hulu Desktop (Media Center Remote Compatibility) - Maybe Hulu wants you to watch their service on your TV?

Maybe this is why Hulu was fighting with Boxxe?  Curious if this will help with Media Center integration,  I know a lot of people including myself thought Hulu (aka Content owners) didn't want you watching the service on your TV.  Now I'm confused

This looks fantastic!  Anyone know if it will be accesable through media center?

The name "Hulu Desktop" still doesn't imply they want it on a TV.  Their marketing for it seems to be very focused on PC.

I get the PC focus but then why support a remote?  Hey let me set a foot away from my PC and grab a remote!  Maybe this is Hulu trying to get some support out to htpc user's with saying it its for HTPC's so they don't tick of content providers.

All we would need to do is add an icon which calls this. Maybe a small utility which actually launches this, and waits for the back button to be hit so it goes back to VMC and closes this.

Agreed. This really shouldn't be any different than the way blu ray players work in MC.

I dont want to steal his (Mikinhosoft) thunder but this program does just that.

I have this working and it works pretty well.  You just have to change the .ini file to call the hulu exe instead of the powerDVD.

Also look at Hulu Labs, where additional Hulu embedding options are discussed. Hulu Video Panels, anyone?

Wow, I'm almost as excited as I was with the Zune HD.  I can't wait to give it a try.  Does it work in Vista 64-bit?  I didn't see anything about a limitation like that.

Is it me or is that interface a cluster-#$@%?
I haven't downloaded it yet, but that does not look intuitive...

I do think that this really shows where their business model is going to evolve to.  It looks like they are going to be a content provider that gets paid purely from embedded ads.  So if you want to use their code to add shows to your website (and thus give them more eyeballs) they are happy to let you do so.  Very interesting model, and a good sign for legitimate programs that keep that business model intact, ie. secondruntv.

I haven't tried it yet, but my thought is to keep it running in the back ground, and when I want to use it just close MC through the Task icon. When I want to go back into MC just hit the green button. Looks pretty good. I wonder if you can set default to 480p.

So the question is, if this app takes off and can get seamlessly integrated into HTPC software like Windows Media Center, would you still consider paying for a service like PlayOn? I understand that PlayOn offers more then just Hulu, but I imagine Hulu is the main draw.

Earlier in the thread there was a link to an app that adds a button to MC to run a program.  In that way you could launch Hulu and hit the green button to get back to MC.  I'll try tonight and see what happens...
