It seems the newest version (2.01) doesn't save your file/folder view choices. It keeps defaulting to list view.
Thanks Kryspy, I've fixed this in my dev build a few days ago. I was planning on releasing a new version this weekend (I'm halfway through some changes)

Artist fan art is available at a basic level, if you have a folder.jpg in your artist folder, it will be used for the thumb for that folder. I recommend using a square image for folder.jpg. Using a background.jpg for backgrounds is definitely something I'll look to include in the next version. I don't have any computers that run Vista so I can't tell if something breaks compatibility, although I suspect that using Windows 7 libraries has broken compatibility with Vista.

The latest version of the plug-in is available from GoogleCode (download). Headline changes are: - Caching has been rewritten from scratch and browsing folders is about 50% faster for folders with about 10 tracks - Fixed the bug with saving Thumb view - Changes to the browsing page layout (header bar with clock, position and spacing of buttons) As always feature suggestions and bug reports are welcome.

Hi Audigy2, I can replicate this error by setting my music library to be on a network share and the network share not being available. I'm guessing any problems accessing folders in your library could be the issue. I should improve the error handling around this but are you able to confirm this could be your issue. You should get an option to see the detail of the error, if you can take a screen shot (they can be quite long to retype) and send to me that would be a great help.

    Re: MusicBrowser development

Thanks for the defect reports, though I'm a little stumped as to why it's suddenly stopped working if it's not relating to a problem accessing the music library in W7. I'll definately improve the error handling in the next version and get it out ASAP. In the mean time if you can think of anything about your music library that may not be "default" that would be useful. That would include

    • Folders in your library not being available
    • Your Windows profile not being on the C:
    • You having deleted your music library
    • It containing invalid or broken music files (e.g. empty files with .MP3 extentions)

I run the plug-in on three computers at home, a mix of 32bit and 64bit, with local and networked libraries so test on a variety of situations before releasing (that's why it's release 2.0.2.3 rather than 2.0.2.0, it didn't work first time on my wife's computer)

    Re: MusicBrowser development

I've added some checks when the application first tries to load your library so it's less likely to fail and added error handling so you get a more useful error message if there is a failure (for example "Error loading music library definition file."). I've also adding logging to the EventLog for fatal errors, although focused mainly on errors I could recreate through breaking various parts of the music library. Sorry for everyone who has had any problems with the last release, this release should address those problems or log the detail of the error so it can be resolved.

As always, the latest version is available on GoogleCode here.

    Re: MusicBrowser development

Thanks - I've installed this app on 7MC x86 and it is working well.

Something has been irritating me for ages with the default 7MC music browser and this app has helped me identify what it is:

For compilations I tag the 'Album artist' as 'Compilations' and put the artist name for the individual tracks in 'Contributing artists'. This works well as all compilations are grouped together in 7MC.

The problem (bug?) occurs when, for example, I want to find all songs by Elton John in my collection but I only have individual tracks for him on different compilations. If I use the 'Search' button and type in 'Elton John' the 7MC default music browser will return Elton John but will find no songs attributed to him. It seams that the search only returns tracks and albums which have an 'Album artist' with the same tag.

I would be great if you could add search funtionality which would return all songs for an artist for both the 'Album artist' and 'Contibuting artist' tags. (iTunes currently does this)
