The USB/UIRT won't work, you have to have a Media Center specific one -- like on ebay.

that's fine with me their less expensive.  do you think it matters if  i get an hp or a dell branded one?

and i dont guess it matters but i have a phillips (forge model at the moment) but it's an 8 device remote and has media center pc as an option when setting up devices.

As long as it is MC compaitble it shouldn't matter what brand it is.

I am using a MS branded USB Ir receiver. Bought at ebay long time ago for 20$ but a HP works too and the HP model looks better.

Will this work on a 64 bits Win7 also?

Is there anybody out there using Win7 64 in combination with IR? If yes, which product do you use as receiver?

I'm thinking of making the switch to Win7 64, but IR is essential :-) I use a serial IR receiver now in combination with Girder, so I guess I can say goodbye to that combination.

Not sure about Win 7, 64... but I have my new HTPC coming in 9 days and can let you know. I just ordered a complete Microsoft remote and IR set on Ebay (listed at $19.99). FYI, I put in an offer (which was accepted) for $14. Add in shipping and you get a complete microsoft remote IR kit (remote, receivers, IR receiver extensions, and component video to Svideo converters) for <$20 (only catch is it has American and Japanese characters), though I will not actually be using the remote most of the time, I got it for the same price at which the IR receiver ONLY is listed by itself.

If you are interested, try making an offer... may even be able to get the kit for $10-13 and the receiver only for even less ($7-8 + s&H?).

The same seller has a microsoft/dell IR receiver only for sale as well: but note that this one does NOT come with "two IR receiver extensions, and two component video to Svideo converters" whereas the above product/link does.

Let me know how you make out...

Strike my statement about maybe getting the receiver only for less. It looks like the complete kit is offered as "make offer", but the receiver is only offered at $13.99 (no "make offer") -- so why not just get the kit (offer $14 or less like I did).

I don't know where you are from. But when use ebay.nl "make offer" doesn't appear, but when I use ebay.com it does.

Btw, the OVU412000 looks like a good choice. Any experience anyone?

The USB-UIRT will work fine for controlling Media Center (with any remote). The only thing that won't work: is the blaster part, that is you will not be able to control a set top box from Media Center with the USB-UIRT.
