    Hi Datadan,

The correct part number is: "MR268 for Vista".

The one you're receiving seems to be a hybrid IR/RF remote. Sorry, but I don't know whether it ships with the reciever. If not, I suggest you contact Chris-M (see elswhere in this thread) and he can get you the right one.

    Re: XPS 420 just arrived.....

Just thought I would post some information that I found...  I was on the phone today with Dell customer service for an hour and twenty minutes trying to figure out the remote.  At one point, I decided to walk her (the CSR) through the configuration of an XPS 420 on dell.com...  Imagine my surprise when I got to the part about adding the ATI Digital Cable Tuners and noticed that the " Dual ATI Digital Cable Tuners w/ Remote" option no longer said "w/ remote"

So, it looks like dell has decided to not include the remote any more.  Lucky for me, when I added the Dual DCT's without upgrading the video card, an error messgae appeared at the top of the webpage that said:

"Errors: Your ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO video card does not support ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner w/ Remote Control selected.  To fix this issue please click on the highlighted words to 'select a different video card or a different tuner'."

So, while dell has removed the "w/ Remote Control" from the DCT option, they forgot to change it in the error.  This was proof enough to the dell CSR that I should have received a remote control, unfortunately she couldn't find the correct model.

Just thought I would let people know about my experience...  hopefully Dell-ChrisM can help me out.

I'm curious why this error is coming up with the ATI 2400 card and the DCT.  I configured and purchased a unit a couple of weeks ago with the ATI card and the DCT.  I'm a little concerned I'm going to have issues.

Are you still around Dell-ChrisM and can you comment on this?

    Thanks!

It may have the part # 0RY496 - I found this number on the Dell Community notes on the XPS 2010 missing remote issue that some people had. I called support last night, and after about 30 mins or so, they have ordered this part for me at no charge.

    datadan,

Did you receive your remove yet?  Was it the Gyation?  If so, what was the actual part number?  If it is, I doubt it will come with a USB receiver.  However, I would much rather purchase the receive seperately to have that remote IMHO.

I received the bottom one as well, and was actually happily suprised as it seems to be a pretty decent remote.

For those still fighting for your remote, for goodness sake's, don't spend hours on the phone.  Use the Dell Customer Support Chat, and the folks over in India will take care of it.  I think it took me all of twenty minutes, and just being a bit forcefull.  These day's I never call Dell on the phone anymore, it's just much easier to use Dell Support Chat while at work, waiting for their 5 minute long responses.

Just use their Customer Chat support, with your order number, and tell them what remote you need, and stand your ground.

It is the right remote - Gyratron under Dell brand with LCD display area but it did not have the USB receiver. Still trying to get that part.

    Datadan,

The Dell Gyration remote is an RF device and should have a small thumbdrive size USB receiver module. Drivers at support.dell.com, under XPS420.

    Re: XPS 420 just arrived.....

I looked into getting the Dell version of the Gyration remote on Ebay for $15 but somewhere I found an email from gyration to someone saying that the RF transmitter for the remote was embedded in the laptop in went with m2010 or something like that.  It won't work with a standard IR receiver and from the sound of it, it doesn't work with a gyration usb adapter either as it was coded specifically for Dell.  You may want to find out from Gyration if they even make a usb that supports the proprietary signal for Dell.  If they don't now, hopefully they will soon...

My XPS didn't come with a remote either (dual cable card option) so I'll be contacting Chris.  Originally I thought it was all worked out with customer service to send me the receiver and remote, I was told it was on its way but... I found out today they cancelled the order and didn't tell me about it.

I contacted him (Chris) yestarday, got a reply in less than 10 min and my remote will be arriving today (was overnighted).  If he helps you, send an email to his manager thanking him for really going above and beyond here, and actually knowing what is going on.  PM him for the address...We really should throw this guy a bone for helping us out....

    ScottC:
I just bought a new XPS 420 also.  Got it with the dual DCT's.  No remote.  Called dell and they tried shipping me one.  Sent me another DCT with no remote.  I called them back today and must have been on the phone for 2 hours.  No one knew what was going on.  Finaly one of the customer servers guys said they would give me $100 in liue of the remote so I took that.  I have been eyeing one of the new sideshow remotes anyway.  It appears dell does not know what they are selling.  I also had to call customer support for help with the cable card activation.  They did not know anything about them.  I finaly talked to the right person at my cable company and they got it figured out.  It only took us about 2 hours to get them activated (which is better than what I was expecting after reading stuff online).

So what you're saying is that Dell sent you an extra DCT for free AND they gave you $100!?!?! Lucky!!!
