Re: video library app for viewing videos/movies and tv episodes with metadata

I'm getting this behavior with this build also. VIDEO_TS folders were working in the last build.

Jack, I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot yet, but is there something I should check for? Any add'l info I should get you?

    bzellinger:
How do you get video_ts folders to play? They show up in the library, but when I press play nothing happens. The video box in the lower left corner pops up but it does nothing. When I click on the box, there are some options like title menu, restart, resume, etc. Clicking on those does nothing.

Basically, can someone tell me how to get video_ts folders to play?

Also, some metadata gets downloaded but it is not reflected in the library.

This application is awesome, by the way. Thanks.

Re: video library app for viewing videos/movies and tv episodes with metadata

Jack, I installed v1.24 and have tried adding my films folder, every time I open the folder it scans a few files (I can see by the metadata being generated) then the windows extensibility host crashes/stops.

The folder is just a bunch of files named like "The Matrix.avi" I thought it may be because I have some stand up things named like "Bill Bailey - Bewilderness.avi" so I removed all of them so all that is left are films.

In addition to this the plugin now refuses to open my films folder at all.

Also I would like to voice my oppinion that spanned folders should so down to the subfolder level, and I'm sure more and more users would like this when they start running out of space for their archived TV shows and start spanning drives.

This is the error log it came up with:

I for one think spanned folders work perfectly the way they are, and don't really see how it could be easily done to do it the way you're asking.  It would be a coding nightmare.

All of my shows are in their own folder, if I run out of space and add a new drive (which I have done twice) I simply pick up a show and move it to the new folder, and leave the others behind.  This does a few things.  Creates space on the old drive for more EPs, works with spanned folders, and makes the access from the MCE 2005 machine in my bedroom easier to follow, as the shows are all in one folder, not Season 1-5 here, and 6-8 there, I really don't see how that would be a more logical solution than simply moving the data.

I would personally prefer JL spent time developing the myriad of other requests he has had in this forum before time was even spent considering this as an option.

when you say video_ts are you really talking about dvds or are you referring to the 'hackjob'scheme I have of grouping multi-part video files?

Re: video library app for viewing videos/movies and tv episodes with metadata

Hey guys, just wanted to say a huge amount of respect to JackLuminous for creating this application, I have just got into the world of HTPC and started using Vista Media Center and i'm quite amazed at the overall little development of up to date and quality plugins available, I knew Microsoft wouldn't bother their bums in developing additional features but I was expecting more 3rd party applications.

I have VideoLibrary installed on VMC x64 and am experiencing a couple of little problems which i was just wondering if anyone could clear up.

    1. I cannot get the VideoLibrary icon to appear in TV+Movies, I have Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre installed and I'm guessing its using the space, so i am resigned to adding VideoLibray to the Online Media menu. Can i change this somehow?

    2. When I click Broswe Episodes in the series info of a program, If it is the first time I have opened it then Media Center Extensibilty Host pops up saying it has stopped working. If i hit debug then i get either a error like "ehexthost.exe - Application Error   The exception unknown software exception (0xc000409 occured in the application at location 0x7f8e8299" (Just got this by trying to browse the Episode information of Knight Rider for the first time) and sometime i get a Taskbar Notification popup stating that Data Excecution Prevention has kicked in.
Strangley if i then close VideoLibrary and reopen in and go and try the same thing again it opens and allows me to browse the episodes. I did also notice on Spooks Season 7 that some episode images didnt download completely or either the image ws created but it was blank, I dont know if this is related.
EDIT: Just noticed that this also happens everytime I add a new Episode of a program to the folder and restart VideoLibrary, crashes then if I reopen the episode info shows fine.

    3. When going into Browse Episodes the episodes are listed but just have the standard VMC Film Reel logo, should these actually be images corresponding to the shows?

Sorry if these problems have been brought up before, i browsed throught the 71 pages of comments but couldnt seem to seem these problems listed.

Out of interest I am using the default VideoLibrary.dll.config except my WatchedFolders is just "D:\TV Shows" and my File structure is
TV Shows\SeriesName\SeriesName.SeasonNumberEpisodeNumber.Extension (i only have the latest seasons setup at the moment)

I would be greatfully appreciattive for some help if possible.

One quick thing, I was just wonder JackLuminous if you had thought about putting a site together do properly support and inform about your plugin? Would be good to have a structured site to allow you to inform about updates and maybe allow users to get involved in aspects of the program.

    Cheers

    Boost :)

    Boost,

I cant answer all your question cause I dont know the answer and I dont understand the question actually, with that said, here what I can contribute with:

I, think, you havent changed the xml file to show thumbnails in the episode list. The app can show thumbnails taken from the actual videofile during first load of each new episode added. There is some options to change in the .xml files inside \.metadata folder that shows "thumbnail" "cover" etc. Check the .xml files in your mainfolder too see what it says.

As for the menu, there is a app called "Menu Mender" which can change the order and visibility of the vmc menu. Google it.

Re: video library app for viewing videos/movies and tv episodes with metadata

In my case I'm talking about both. I have both pure DVD rips and muti-part files. BOTH don't work when you click play. The preview window pops up in the lower/left corner with the stop icon and when you select it, it brings up the menu with "Done, Resume, Restart, Title Menu, DVD Languages, Eject" When I select "Resume or Restart" the screen just goes black and nothing happens.

It was working in the previous version, but it seems to have stopped working now.

Re: video library app for viewing videos/movies and tv episodes with metadata

I just finished setting up all my tv shows with this addin, and its great.  Nice work.  I've been looking for an addin that does automatic meta grabbing and such.  It works great.  My next question is what is the best folder structure to use for movies.  Basically here is what I have...

    D:\Movies\Movie Name\Movie Name.avi

    D:\TVShows\Show Name\Season X\XX - Name.avi.

The tv shows work great, but the movies dont display any art.  I have folder.jpgs is some, but still nothing.  Is there auto meta grabber functionality for movies or just tv??  Thanks.

I'll try it on my own lowly Dell Dimension 8100 1GB Ram office pc to see if I get the same problem.

...Schlep pretty much said what I was about to.  A friend of mine introduced me to the concept of ROI. Return on Investment. I think that applies here also: it would be a coding headache for not much gain.

...that being said, however, if I come up with a clean, easy to understand, way to do this,  I may reconsider but don't hold me to it.

Movie data comes from themoviedb.org. Is your movie listed there? Also, if you're going to have movie folders, this app requires a blank VIDEO_TS folder in there. If you don't, then the app will display a folder then you're going to have to click into that folder to get to your movie then another click to play it. Tedious, right?

However, if the app finds a VIDEO_TS subfolder, it'll treat the whole bloody lot as a movie. This means, it'll display the folder as a single movie.

Maybe I set it up wrong:

Example - I made a folder with the name Move. Inside that folder is the video_ts folder. It appears in the video library along with my other avi's, mkv's, etc. It just won't play. Basically I have it set up as if I was using video_ts folders in WMC's built in dvd library.

Thanks for the reply.  I put a blank VIDEO_TS folder in my .avi directory (in the following structure)

    d:\MovieName\VIDEO_TS

I tried the .avi file within the VIDEO_TS foler and at the same level, but the addin crashes in both cases.  Error stating ehost has stopped working.

UNfortunately, I'm out of the ideas. For the record, you don't put the files inside video_ts; just keep them at the same level. Video_ts is just a flag to tell the plugin to treat it a movie.

    Are you running x64 ?
